Discover Ella's Food & Drink

Walking into Ella's Food & Drink for the first time felt like stepping into a place that already knew you. It sits quietly at 2 Tower St, Westerly, RI 02891, United States, tucked into a neighborhood where locals clearly know where to eat well. I stopped in on a busy Friday evening after hearing a bartender nearby call it a go-to spot for real comfort food, and that description turned out to be spot on.

The menu strikes a balance between familiar diner classics and thoughtful twists that show someone in the kitchen actually cares. I ordered a seasonal special recommended by the server, who explained how the kitchen rotates ingredients based on what’s fresh and available locally. That attention to sourcing isn’t just a trend; according to data from the National Restaurant Association, over 60% of diners say locally sourced ingredients improve their trust in a restaurant. You can taste that intention here, especially in dishes where simple ingredients are allowed to shine instead of being overworked.

What stood out most was how the food arrives quickly without feeling rushed. Watching the open kitchen in action, you can see a clear process: orders are called, plated with consistency, and checked before they hit the table. That kind of workflow usually comes from experience, not shortcuts. A former line cook I dined with pointed out how clean stations and steady pacing reduce mistakes, something backed by ServSafe training standards widely used across the industry.

Drinks deserve their own moment. The cocktail list leans classic, but the execution is precise. One bartender mentioned they measure every pour rather than eyeballing it, which aligns with best practices recommended by the United States Bartenders’ Guild to ensure consistency and guest trust. Even the non-alcoholic options feel intentional, not like an afterthought, which matters more as nearly one in three adults now choose low- or no-alcohol beverages, according to Nielsen data.

The atmosphere stays relaxed without slipping into careless. Tables turn steadily, yet conversations don’t feel cut short. I noticed regulars greeting staff by name, which says more than any online reviews ever could. Speaking of reviews, many mention reliability, and that’s something I experienced firsthand. The second visit a week later delivered the same quality, timing, and friendly service, which isn’t always easy to pull off in a busy diner setting.

There’s also transparency here that builds trust. Allergy questions were answered clearly, and the server didn’t hesitate to double-check with the kitchen. The CDC consistently emphasizes that clear communication reduces food-related incidents, and it’s reassuring to see that awareness practiced on the floor rather than buried in policy manuals.

No place is perfect, and during peak hours the wait can stretch longer than expected, especially if you’re aiming for a specific table. Parking nearby can also be a bit tight, something worth planning around. Still, those small trade-offs feel reasonable for a spot that delivers steady food, thoughtful drinks, and genuine hospitality.

Ella's Food & Drink works because it doesn’t try to be everything at once. It focuses on doing the basics well, listening to its community, and keeping standards high without losing its easygoing charm. Whether you’re scanning menus online, reading reviews before deciding where to eat, or just wandering through Westerly looking for a reliable meal, this is the kind of place that earns repeat visits through consistency rather than hype.

  • In town on business. I researched and chose Ella’s. I was not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food and drinks were artfully contrived, well arranged, and plentiful. The restaurant was comfortable, nice ambiance, and clean. I have zero complaints and cannot wait until the next time I’m in the area so I can return here.

  • Excellent service & food from start to finish. Had the Halibut Special, Crabby Scallops, Burger & fries, & Dreamsicle Cheesecake.. 5+ stars Update. Returned again & another excellent meal. Started with friendly, knowledgeable, attentive service from Mia. Had organic tomato salad, mushroom app to start. Entree’s were salmon, crabby scallops, & venison on special. Dessert was blueberry raspberry tart. Ella’s is at top of our list when vacationing in Westerly RI

  • ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I can’t say enough good things about Ella’s. From the moment we walked in, the service was absolutely flawless — warm, attentive, and genuinely caring without ever feeling over the top. You can tell the team here takes real pride in what they do. And the food… wow. Every dish that came out was perfection — beautifully plated, balanced, and bursting with flavor. You can tell everything is made with high-quality ingredients and real attention to detail. It’s one of those meals where every bite makes you pause for a second just to appreciate it. What really stood out, though, was the overall experience. It’s rare to find a place that nails both food and hospitality at this level. Ella’s has that special combination of heart, creativity, and consistency that keeps you thinking about it long after you leave.

  • Dinner was absolutely amazing! My husband and I had the filets—hands down the best we’ve ever had. The cows must be pampered because the flavor and tenderness were out of this world. The lobster mac and cheese was rich and delicious, while the appetizers—the dynamite oysters and mussels—are an absolute must. We topped it all off with the bourbon mousse dessert, which was spectacular and truly special. Overall, a wonderful place for a memorable dinner.

Great guy amazing person. The food was on point. I can never resist a good scallop dish and this restaurant pumps out a great one. The carrot cake screams nom nom. I could’ve had three pieces. Great experience great staff.

  • One of the best dining experiences in my 43 years. Food was perfect, my wife and I kept trading bites and both meals were equally excellent. Our server Kristen was a delight, sharing both knowledge and humor while helping us make the best choices. We are planning to go back tomorrow if we can!
